Aradhita Parasrampuria
Aradhita, a designer based in New York, is committed to bridging artificial materials and the natural world through innovative, sustainable approaches. By reimagining traditional textile production, she creates circular systems that prioritise environmental harmony. Combining synthetic biology with fashion, Aradhita develops eco-friendly and economically viable materials using algae, escherichia coli, and mycelium. By harnessing the unique properties of these materials, including bioluminescence, she opens exciting possibilities for designers while addressing environmental challenges.

The Creatives for Our Future programme was a launch pad for Aradhita, who developed a proprietary method of transforming algae and cellulose into sustainable and scalable bio-embellishments aimed at reducing microplastic pollution and carbon emissions while eliminating the use of toxic materials and dyes in the fashion industry. During the programme to advance this transformative work, Aradhita founded Cellsense, a company dedicated to sustainable material innovation.
The visibility and mentorship provided by the Swarovski Foundation enabled Aradhita to produce embellishments for sustainable fashion designer Ian Allen Greer for a capsule collection that was exhibited at the United Nations headquarters; Indian jewellery designer Roma Narsinghani, which initially sold out 3000 pieces and has since resulted in four repeat orders; and French-Peruvian jewellery brand, NPOMME, to create 50,000 beads in 10 days.

Mentorship played a crucial role in my growth during the programme. My mentorship sessions with Mimma Viglezio were invaluable, as she encouraged me to apply for patents, document my process through video, and create prototypes of conventional garments embellished using Cellsense's materials. Her guidance provided me with a clear framework and goals that I became determined to achieve by the end of the programme.
