Daniele Ficarra
Daniele, an Italian product designer and graduate of Domus Academy in Milan, blends nature-inspired innovation with thoughtful design to improve human life. His work translates natural forms and behaviours into functional objects that address real-world challenges. His project is AQUO, a sustainable and portable light powered by bioluminescent marine bacteria. This liquid-based, green energy solution is easily adaptable in form, rechargeable, and functional in any environment. Designed to provide light in areas without electricity, AQUO eliminates the need for electronic or fuel-based waste, highlighting Daniele’s commitment to sustainable development.

Daniele is currently advancing AQUA, an innovative light powered by bioluminescent organisms. Designed to be versatile, it can be handheld and portable or mounted on a wall.
With support from the Creatives for Our Future programme, Daniele successfully navigated the multi-phase prototype development process and has now completed a final prototype ready for scaling and broader implementation.
Reflecting on his journey, Daniele credits the Creatives for Our Future programme for bringing his vision to life, empowering him with the confidence to harness his creativity to drive change.
Guided by mentor Tosin Oshinowo, he gained valuable insights into how users perceive and interact with his designs, unlocking the full potential of AQUO and its positive impact on sustainable living.

Sustainable development is the only model of life that will allow us to guarantee the balance of the elements of our planet for future generations.
